Fabrics!

POSTED ON August 19 , 2009

I confess. I can’t walk into a fabric store without buying something. Or it takes all my will power to avoid that.
I’m fascinated by their colours, their weight, the neverending patterns.

I can’t be close to the baskets full of remnants – swatches left from the fabric rolls, usually sold at a lower price – without briefly inspect the content.

My last visit to a big fabric store was with my husband, to buy a couple of really simple and really – too much – specific fabrics.
Despite my husband’s immense patience and because of an untimely blackout in the store, I haven’t been able to check everything with proper care.
However, I brought home not less than four remnants, a few seconds after solemnly saying: I will never ever buy again any fabric without having a project in mind!

Even when they sit there in crumply piles, fabrics amaze and inspire me.
Projects often come from the materials that one’s have there, not the other way around.

My latest finds, in two different patterns, maybe will turn into clothes.
The blue, red, black and white fabric, with its ethnic and the striped pattern, inspires a floaty summer kaftan to me.
The one with the flowers on the bright pink background speaks of a romantic dress.
But really I don’t think I will have time to sew them before the end of summer.
I’m a lazy, lazy seamstress.

I think tomorrow I could have a look at the fabric store, just to see if there is something new.
